The 2-1/2 story brick house was built c. 1820, and is the only Federal style brick building in the town. The house was built for Joseph Sawyer, a real estate speculator and politician. The brick was laid predominantly in common bond, with some rows laid in stretcher bond for variety. Four slender chimneys pierce the gabled roof.
